Updating the firmware on your Tenda D301 router is a straightforward process that can improve security and performance. Step 1: Download the Correct Firmware

Updating the firmware on your Tenda D301 router is a straightforward process that helps improve device stability, fixes bugs, and patches security vulnerabilities. Preparation Identify Hardware Version

The "File Too Big" or "Upgrade Failed" Error

This usually happens if the user attempts to flash a file meant for a different hardware version. The D301 checks the firmware header against its internal Hardware ID (HWID). If they mismatch, the bootloader protects the memory by rejecting the write.

Last updated: 2025 – This guide applies to all hardware versions V1.0 through V3.0 of the Tenda D301.

Select and Upload the Firmware: Click on the option to browse for the firmware file on your computer, select the file you downloaded, and then start the update process. This might take a few minutes.

Steps to Downgrade:

  1. Download an older firmware version from Tenda’s support site.
  2. Perform the same upgrade process but with the older .bin file.
  3. After downgrading, always perform a factory reset (pinhole reset for 10 seconds).
  4. Do not restore a backup made on the newer firmware—reconfigure manually.
