Client Download Exclusive Hot! | Symantec Endpoint Protection Unmanaged
Downloading a Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) unmanaged client requires access to the Broadcom Support Portal using a valid license or serial number
Quick checklist (before deploying unmanaged SEP clients)
- [ ] Valid SEP license for each endpoint
- [ ] Downloaded installer from Broadcom or authorized source
- [ ] Installer signatures/checksums verified
- [ ] Local update method (LiveUpdate or local share) configured
- [ ] Local policies and firewall rules set
- [ ] Inventory and segmentation plan for unmanaged devices
- [ ] Ongoing update and monitoring plan
Sylink.xml: As noted, this file is the handshake. In an unmanaged client, this file is either absent or contains XML tags that point to liveupdate.symantecliveupdate.com rather than an internal IP.
Cmano.config: This file controls the Communication Manager settings. In an unmanaged scenario, this is configured to allow direct internet access for definition downloads without tunneling through a management server.
Self-Management: The primary user has full control over security settings and scan schedules. [ ] Valid SEP license for each endpoint
- Communication: Maintains a heartbeat connection to the SEPM.
- Policy Enforcement: Receives antivirus policies, firewall rules, and updates (definitions) directly from the central management console.
- Reporting: Sends logs and threat data back to the manager for centralized reporting.
- Deployment: Typically installed via a deployment link generated by the manager or via third-party software distribution tools.
