The Verdict
The Subsistence Savegame Editor isn't for everyone. Purists will say you need to "git gud" and suffer through the grind. In Private Co-op (Discuss with Friends)
A. The Inventory Array (Resource Manipulation)
This is the most common use case. In the raw file, inventory items are stored as arrays with two primary variables: ID and Quantity. you can adjust enemy damage
- Player Stats: Health, stamina, temperature, food/water levels, and skill points.
- Inventory Items: Add or remove any item in the game—from sticks and stones to high-end rifles, medkits, and fishing rods.
- Base Storage: Edit the contents of your crafting stations, lockers, and chests.
- Base Structures: Repair damaged walls, refuel generators, or even "unlock" building pieces you haven't researched yet.
- World State: Adjust the time of day, weather conditions, and animal spawns.
- Hunter AI: Reduce the aggression or loot volume of the hostile hunter NPCs.
In Private Co-op (Discuss with Friends)
- Gray Area: If you and two friends are playing a private co-op game, just talk about it. If you spawn a rocket launcher on day 1 while your friends are grinding stone tools, you ruin their fun. If you spawn in bandages to save the group from a wolf pack because the game glitched—that’s fine.
- Custom Game Settings: When starting a new world, you can adjust enemy damage, resource yield, and day/night length. Turn "Hunter Aggression" to Passive and "Resource Gain" to High.
- Developer Console (Limited): Pressing
~(tilde) in some versions allows basic commands likegod(invincibility), but this is far less powerful than the save editor. - Steam Workshop Mods: A few community mods adjust stack sizes and crafting speeds without altering your save file structure.
