Historically, "quakprep" was a common shorthand used by emergency response organizations to provide quick access to survival guides.
6. During an earthquake
- Indoors: Drop, Cover, Hold On. Stay away from windows, heavy fixtures, and exterior walls. If in bed, protect your head with a pillow.
- Outdoors: Move to an open area away from buildings, trees, power lines.
- Driving: Pull over safely, stop, set parking brake; avoid bridges and overpasses if possible.
- DROP: Get on your hands and knees immediately. This prevents the earthquake from knocking you down.
- COVER: Crawl under a sturdy table or desk. If none is available, crawl to an interior wall and cover your head and neck with your arms. Stay away from windows, glass, and heavy furniture that could topple.
- HOLD ON: Grab the leg of the table (or your own neck) and hold on until the shaking stops.
