The PlayStation Portable (PSP) remains one of the most beloved handheld consoles of all time. Even years after its discontinuation, the homebrew community and retro-gaming enthusiasts keep the flame alive. However, one major hurdle for new players is storage space. While modern MicroSD adapters allow for massive storage, many standard PSP memory sticks are still small (1GB, 2GB, or 4GB).
The native file format for a PSP game is an ISO (a bit-for-bit copy of the UMD disc). A typical ISO can range from 100MB to 1.8GB. "High compression" usually refers to converting that ISO into a CSO (Compressed ISO).
After stripping Lumines or Puzzle Quest to bare bones, you might hit ~40–60MB. But the game becomes silent, ugly, and sometimes unplayable (missing data causes crashes).
If you truly need small file sizes on a real PSP:
: ~15 MB to 20 MB. Widely considered one of the best arcade experiences on the system.
