This guide will walk you through the process of manually localizing or restoring English language files for Medieval II: Total War. This is often necessary if you have a non-English retail copy or a "repack" that stripped the original audio and text. 🛠️ Requirements A working installation of Medieval II: Total War.

Steam will automatically download the necessary localized.pack and audio files. Common Localized Pack Issues

Clear Cache: Delete the events.dat and events.idx files in the sounds folder; the game will regenerate them in the new language upon launch.

  1. Navigate to tools/unpacker.
  2. Run unpack_all.bat (this creates 10,000+ files).
  3. Go to unpacked/data/text and copy all .txt files.
  4. Paste them into Medieval II Total War/data/text.
  5. Delete all .bin files. Launch the game.
  6. Zip up your data/text folder – congrats, you just made your own hot pack.
