Abstract
This paper introduces an adapted pedagogical framework – the Lea-Wals Model – combining Arjen Wals’ principles of transdisciplinary sustainability education with a child-centered early childhood approach exemplified by the We Are Little Stars (WALS) program. Using a qualitative case study, we examine how young children develop systems thinking, empathy, and action competence through inquiry-based, nature-connected learning. Findings suggest that integrating Wals’ social learning theory into early years settings fosters pro-environmental attitudes and collaborative problem-solving from preschool onward.
