Hytera HP605 Programming Software

Overview

The Hytera HP605 is a commercial-grade UHF/VHF handheld radio commonly used in business, construction, hospitality, and event communications. The programming software for the HP605 lets technicians and users configure channels, frequencies, talk groups, power levels, signaling (DTMF/C4FM/2-Tone), scanning lists, and other radio features from a PC rather than manually via the radio’s keypad.

  1. Go to Zone.
  2. Create a new Zone name.
  3. Select the zone and add your programmed channels from the "Available Channels" list to the "Selected Channels" list.

4. The Major Flaws (What to Watch Out For)

  1. Firmware Lockout: The biggest complaint. If you update your HP605’s firmware to v2.0, you must use CPS v2.x. Older CPS versions will not even recognize the radio. Always check your radio’s firmware version first.
  2. License Dependency: Unlike entry-level radios (Baofeng, etc.), the HP605 CPS requires a paid license per computer. You cannot simply download it from a public forum (legally). This is frustrating for amateur users.
  3. Password Protection: Radios can be password-locked by previous owners. The CPS has a "Read Password" field, but if you don’t know it, you cannot read the radio. There is no backdoor.
  4. No Virtual Radio: Unlike Motorola’s CPS 2.0, Hytera does not offer a "virtual radio" to test your codeplug before writing.
