How It Works

1. The internal op-amp compares the voltage across R_sense to a precise 0.1V bandgap reference.
2. If the sense voltage drops below 0.1V (meaning too little current), the internal pass transistor turns on harder.
3. If the voltage exceeds 0.1V, the transistor reduces conduction.
4. Excess input voltage is dropped across the IC as heat → Thermal management is critical.

• Current Limiting: The chip automatically throttles current if the load tries to draw more than the safe limit (typically 2.2A internally), preventing immediate burnout during short circuits.
• Thermal Shutdown: If the junction temperature exceeds approximately 125°C, the regulator turns off, cooling down until it is safe to operate again.
