1.1 64 Bit: Grub4dos Installer
Grub4dos Installer 1.1 (often referred to as grubinst 1.1) is a legacy Windows-based GUI utility designed to install the GRUB4DOS bootloader to the Master Boot Record (MBR) or partition boot sector of a drive. While the installer itself is a 32-bit executable (grubinst_gui.exe), it remains compatible with 64-bit Windows environments for managing boot sectors on local hard drives and USB flash media. Key Technical Capabilities
Important Notes for 2024 and Beyond
- Secure Boot: Grub4Dos is legacy code. It does not support UEFI Secure Boot. To boot your USB stick on a modern PC, you must enter the BIOS/UEFI settings and disable Secure Boot, then select the "Legacy USB" or "CSM" boot option.
- UEFI vs Legacy: This installer creates a Legacy MBR bootloader. It will not boot on a machine that is strictly UEFI-only (unless CSM is enabled). If you need UEFI support, you are better off looking into Grub2 or Ventoy, which are the modern successors to Grub4Dos.
Versatile Booting: It allows users to boot from various sources, including ISO files, virtual hard disks (VHD), and multiple Linux distributions, all from a single menu. grub4dos installer 1.1 64 bit
