Hyouka, which translates to "Ice Cream" in Japanese, is a Japanese anime series based on the light novel series of the same name written by Honobu Sakurazaka and illustrated by Keeji Mizoguchi. The anime series consists of 22 episodes and was produced by Studio Gokumi. Hyouka premiered in January 2012 and concluded in September 2012.
There, he meets the radiant and relentlessly curious Eru Chitanda. When Chitanda looks at Oreki with those violet eyes and utters her famous line, “Watashi, kininarimasu!” (I’m curious!), Oreki’s brain—whether he likes it or not—snaps into gear. The story unfolds as the duo, along with friends Satoshi and Mayaka, solve mundane but fascinating mysteries: Why was a classroom door locked from the inside ten years ago? Who stole the Jūmonji card? What really happened during a student film festival?
The series follows Houtarou Oreki, a boy whose life motto is, "If I don't have to do it, I won't. If I have to do it, I'll make it quick". He prefers to conserve his energy and stay out of the spotlight. However, his life changes when he joins the Classic Literature Club at his sister's request and meets Eru Chitanda, a girl whose boundless curiosity ("I'm curious!") forces him to use his sharp deductive skills to solve mundane school mysteries.
