Update 1.38 refined the driver's interface and customization options: 

Pros: No upfront cost (illegal). Cons: High risk of malware, keyloggers, and cryptocurrency miners. No multiplayer. Buggy performance. No tech support. We strongly advise against this. If you cannot afford the game, wait for a Steam sale—it is discounted heavily every few months.

Step 5: Launch and Verify

Once the download finishes:

Because ETS2 has moved well beyond 1.38 (current versions are 1.49+), players who specifically need version 1.38 for mod compatibility (such as older versions of ProMods) can do so via the Steam "Betas" tab:  Right-click Euro Truck Simulator 2 in your Steam Library. Select Properties, then navigate to the Betas tab.

• Restore a local backup made when 1.38 was installed (Steam → Games → Backup and Restore Games → Restore a previous backup).
• Use the "steamapps/common/Euro Truck Simulator 2" folder from a machine that still has 1.38, then run Steam → verify local files.
