The Director's Cut Troy restores the funeral of Achilles. We watch Odysseus argue with Ajax over Achilles’ armor. We watch the Myrmidons carry his body to a pyre. Most importantly, we watch his cousin, Briseis (Rose Byrne), light the fire. The final shot is not of a horse, but of Odysseus walking alone through the ashes. In the theatrical cut, Paris is a cowardly brat. The Director’s Cut adds a scene after Hector’s death where Paris watches his brother’s body being dragged. Instead of running, Paris arms himself with Hector’s sword. While he still loses to Menelaus, the edit shows him fighting with desperate, futile courage. He finally earns a sliver of the audience’s respect.
