Why this worked: The diamond overloaded the centre, pulling the AI’s two central defenders out of position. The attacking midfielder consistently found space between the opposition’s midfield and defence – a “zone of death” the AI could not cope with. Meanwhile, the full-backs, set to cross from the byline, provided width. The AI’s wingers would track back, but the overlapping full-back would invariably deliver a cross to the far post, where the free central midfielder was arriving late. Marking: Zonal marking is generally more reliable for preventing defensive lapses than man-to-man. Key Player Attributes Goalkeeper: Sweeper Keeper if available
Player roles & instructions
- Goalkeeper: Sweeper Keeper if available; otherwise Standard Keeper. Instruct to distribute short to defenders.
- Right/Left Full-Backs: Full-Back/Support — overlap wingers when attacking; otherwise hold line.
- Centre-Backs: Central Defenders/Defend — one can be slightly more aggressive if you have a ball-playing defender.
- Right/Left Midfield (Wingers): Winger/Support — stay wide, stretch play, deliver crosses. If you have pacy wingers, set them to Attack to push higher.
- Central Midfielders:
Setup: Five defenders (including wing-backs), three midfielders, and two strikers.
