What changed in 12.1.0.56 (high-level)
Released in early 2017 as part of Adobe’s Creative Cloud continuous release cycle, InDesign CC 2017 version 12.1.0.56 is a stable update to the professional page layout software. This build primarily focused on bug fixes, performance improvements, and refinements to features introduced in the initial CC 2017 release (12.0).
: This version fully leverages 64-bit support on both Mac and Windows, allowing the application to access more than 3GB of RAM. This makes handling large, asset-heavy files significantly smoother. System Requirements Adobe InDesign CC 2017 12.1.0.56
Object Styles received a much-needed upgrade in this version. Designers could now define "Object Size & Position" within a style. This allowed for auto-positioning of objects (like a logo that must always be 10mm from the top right corner) and auto-sizing text frames, significantly speeding up repetitive layout tasks.
Note for archivists: Version 12.1.0.56 is often considered the “golden build” of the CC 2017 line because later 12.x.x patches introduced minor regressions that were only fully resolved in CC 2018. The Transition of Precision: Adobe InDesign CC 2017
